Great sea view at reasonable price

Nice sea view. Friendly staff. Good value for money. I loved the free upgrade to a sea view room!

The cleaning personnel came to the room very early at times. No one wants cleaning at 8:30 when you're on vacation. The indoor pool is quite cold.

Enjoyed the stay.

The Moroccan restaurant food & staff was lovely. The lady sat on the information desk on the afternoon of Friday 22nd around 4/5pm in the main lobby was also extremely friendly & helpful.

Buffet dinner & breakfast was disappointing.

Good enough hotel but terrible reception staff.

Great location on the promenade. Food was good and waiter staff very good. Rooms were fairly spacious.

Reception staff were really not friendly nor who should be at front of house. We booked this hotel for 2 main reasons. 1. Because it had the option of 2 single beds instead of a double as I thought as travelling with my mother. And 2. Because there was free parking for our rental car for the week. When we checked I. I asked the lady to confirm that it was 2 singles as we had requested, and she said that wasn’t possible. When I told her that we were asked during the booking what beds we wanted she then quite abruptly said something very dismissive. She was sourly anyway to say the least. Next when I asked where I should park the car, as it was still right at the door, she said parking was to be paid. I said that when I booked it said free parking. She went back and another reception lady came and again was very abrupt, borderline rude that it changed just today and said it was tough luck and it had to change someday. I told her fine, if they changed it today ( which seemed a bit of a coincidence) but we booked a couple of weeks earlier and it said free at our time of booking so it should be free. I had to be quite firm myself which is really not the first thing you want to have to deal with when you are checking into a hotel for your relaxing vacation. Anyway, in the end the manager gave us a key for the parking, but I couldn’t help but feel like they were trying to take advantage of 2 women who they thought wouldn’t know any better. Please Pestana, sort out your reception staff!!!

Pleasant but not 5 ⭐️

Good location, all facilities in good working condition, excellent breakfast quality and choices offered, some staff extremely friendly making you feel welcomed. Older adults, 55+, seemed to be happy and loving the place. Outside sunlounge and pool area are very pleasant to stay and unwind with your favourite book or just soak up the sun. The Turkish bath was excellent.

Decor/taste a little outdated. Jacuzzi and sauna temperatures were almost cold and not big enough for the size of the hotel. Some staff weren't natural and did not make you feel too welcomed. I'd say more like an intruder who dared to add to their workload. For a 5 star hotel, the expectations are really high, and this stay certainly did not meet or exceeded them.

Not the five star experience we expected, poor food

The room was really nice and the view out onto the ocean was also nice (apparently we got slightly upgraded). The pool was nice and the indoor sauna & spa area were quite nice too. Very tasty desserts at dinner. Nice, albeit quite cheesy, Madeiran dance and music performance on Wednesday night.

It is not good value for money. We booked this place thinking we'd get a bit of luxury, a nice five star treat, but it was that only in parts of it and mostly in the appearance and price. The food was not great, at dinner the fish and the sweet potatoes were super dry, and overall the warm dishes were barely warm. The breakfast was a bit better, but the juice tasted like the cheapest juice you can ever imagine and the poor chef lady had to cook omelettes on a super scratched up pan (please get her a new pan!). The bathroom was full of limescale. We got water at dinner, which cost 4.50EUR for a bottle that they refill from the tap and they added a 0.45EUR tip on top of that, which we were not going to argue about (for a reference though, you pay less for proper bottled water in the restaurants in Funchal). However, at the check out we were presented with the bill, which included not only the 4.50EUR water plus 0.45EUR tip, but also a 1EUR donation to them. So now we were meant to pay 6EUR for a bottle of essentially tap water, which was just silly, so we refused to pay that extra 1EUR. We only stayed for a night, but I can't imagine what sort of bills people would be paying for all their additional drinks and in-hotel purchases! When you check in they automatically sign you up on their Pestana member website without really asking you.

Overall nice hotel, pleasant staff and good quality food….

Good choice of foods and fresh fruit to suit all dietary requirements. Well maintained hotel and very clean. Gardens and grounds well kept. All Staff very pleasant and helpful. The guest relationship lady (sorry I didn’t get her name) was especially helpful with good advice on tours etc.. Nice indoor and outdoor pool.

Poor quality beds for a 5 star hotel, my back is now stiff and upon my arrival back to uk I had to book an appointment with an osteopath. All the Nescafé sachet and milk portions in the rooms were not replenished every day. You had to request this with housekeeping which I did on 3 occasions.. for a 5 star hotel this needs to change and coffee etc should be replenished as courtesy. Coffee at breakfast was of poor quality with limited choice of hot beverages. Sun loungers uncomfortable especially when lying on then all day.

Great hotel, not a top end 5 star, but still very good and decent location.

Breakfast was ok, got quite busy at times, usual fare but done well. Bacon and omelettes cooked to order but always a queue. Bottles of cava some days. Overall pretty decent. The outside pools were very nice, with great views 270 degrees out to sea. Pools were all very clean. Bubble jets in the pools were a nice touch. Outside pools were salt water but the spa pool was chlorine. Evening food was a but hit and miss. Madeiran night was very good with huge amounts of fresh seafood, the vegetarian night however was pretty poor. Moroccan restaurant was ok, nice enough food but a bit dark and dingy. The Mira Mar restaurant at the sister hotel was very good with a lovely setting in a garden courtyard. Hotel gardens were incredible, and impeccably manicured. There is a children's play area which may be new as it doesn't feature on any photos on the website, just a small slide and swings and playhouse but enough to keep the kids occupied whilst you can sit and enjoy a glass of wine in the gardens at sunset. Great location, not in the middle of Funchal but still has the Forum shopping centre right nearby, plenty of restaurants and bars, the seafront promenade literally on your doorstep and Doca Do Cavacas swimming pools around the corner. Overall, a very nice hotel, lacking the finesse and luxury of an actual 5 star but nothing to complain about and good for families.

Lacking some of the finesse and luxury of an actual 5 star. Drinks were fairly expensive, 4.5Euro for a 750ml bottle of water at dinner was excessive. Booking the a la carte restaurants was nigh on impossible, arrived on Tuesday and they were all fully booked for the rest of the week. Kids menu at the a la carte restaurants was pretty poor and unimaginative (pizza and burger). Family room was a single room with big double, a sofa bed and trundle bed next to it. Would have preferred if this was made clearer at booking.

Very comfortable, relaxing, good location.

The pools were lovely, the sauna and steam room great! The breakfast was good. The hotel is like a mini-oasis!! It is within walking distance of the black sand / pebble beach. It is close to car / scooter rental - which is very convenient. Bus stop is nearby. Supermarket nearby. Really great location! And a lovely hotel!

Dinner was not great. I do not recommend it. There are several dinner locations within walking distance, no need to do dinner at the hotel.

It was a great relaxing couple of days after very intensive hiking activities in Madeira.

Good breakfast and dinner. Rooms were better than we expected with photos. Free parking. Very nice view from side sea type of rooms - straight to sunset side, so it doesn't make sense to pay extra for upgrade.

"Sea salt pool" was advertised but we were not able to find such. Drinks and even water is not included into the price for a dinner. As our departure was very early in the morning - we asked for a lunchbox instead of a breakfast. It was not so great to be honest. It is not to complain - but to meet the expectations it is good to know that this hotel is very popular by older audience.

This place is alright, however, there is still room for improvement

The garden, the view from the hotel and the location are stunning. Design is a bit old-fashioned but still alright. Very popular among older people.

Could have been a little more up-to-date. Cleaning was sometimes good, sometimes not even the trash was taken. Sometimes we got extra water, sometimes we did not. Wellness is very poor. They say pools are heated, but we couldn't feel it. It was so cold, the kids couldn't use it at all.

This hotel needs an urgent renovation - and a good manager!

Breakfast was OK for this kind of big hotel, but not overwhelming !

The coffee quality unfortunately was the worst ever! Only at the pool bar you could get a good coffee … and pay for it of course! Food quality at dinners was poor, the same for Sylvester dinner, although good wine was served! Location of the hotel is far out from Funchal, nothing nice to discover in direct walking distance! In pool and spa areas, many places of water infiltration, damaged walls and mold. The sauna was cold, as well as the jacuzzi!

Food overall was ok, although for 5 start hotel I expected higher level and more selection of food. Location of hotel, room size and view is very good, this is the only 5 stars in this hotel. Pillows - 1 star, mattress 3 stars. Spa - 4 starts.
